Power kiting in its various forms is now very popular.
Power kites are mostly foil kites, by definition powerful and in high winds strong enough to pull you along at high speed, or lift you off the ground.
For this sport you need to be fit and careful. The person who is to fly the kite must be sure that they are able to cope with the wind power, beginners should start with a smaller kite as large power kites require some experience. You must know your limitations.
If you are new to the sport and looking for your first power kite, you will be considering a small two line or four line kite size between 1 to 3 metres span, depending on your age and ability. Static flying with these kites can be extremely skilful and flying enabling all sorts of tricks and manoeuvres. However if you have some experience and are more ambitious, you will be considering a much larger four line kite perhaps of 6 metre or even 13 metres span or more, depending on the activity you are planning, perhaps with a buggy, mountain board or even a snowboard. For these activities we suggest you receive some instruction.
You must also be prepared to protect yourself with safety equipment such as a helmet, gloves, elbow and knee pads.
Whatever you decide you will find that this is an exhilarating sport, a tremendous buzz, enjoy it – but be careful, and read our Kite safety section before you begin flying.
