Kite Flying - Safety Advice by Jobo Leisure

The reason we fly kites and power kites on land or sea, is that they are exciting sports, that they can be exhilarating, strenuous, skilful, and fun - that’s what makes them so appealing to so many of us.

However you must be fully aware that these sports can be dangerous and you MUST make yourself fully aware of the risks BEFORE taking part.

We offer a few initial suggestions as a guide, but you MUST receive instruction and advice from people with experience BEFORE participating in these activities.

We suggest that:

  • You consider your own safety and the safety of others.
  • Be aware that winds can be powerful and wind conditions erratic.
  • Make sure that you can control the power of your kite.
  • Do not fly kites near power lines, roads, buildings, airports, animals,  trees, cliffs or on dangerous terrain.
  • Do not fly kites in storms- lightning can strike a wet kite line.
  • Take expert advice about protective clothing and equipment.
  • For some kiting you could need a helmet, a visor, knee and elbow pads and tough foot wear.
  • Ensure that your equipment is efficient and properly maintained.

BE CAREFUL AND TAKE CARE
